Today Bethy, Uncle Bob, Rosa, Leeann and I went to walk at the Susan G Koman Race for the Cure Breast Cancer walk! It was awesome! It is something that I have ALWAYS wanted to do and have never had a chance to. So this was on my 30 Under 30 list and it is officially marked as DONE! :) I love that I marked it off and made a difference! :) And when I got home, Eli helped to raise some awareness! :)
I was reading a article about being a mom the other day. It was all about how we can't blame ourselves. It got me thinking...
What does it mean to be a mom? To me it's really simple... You guys may laugh, but to me it's forgetting about my slippers. I know, I know. Kate, what are you talking about?! Let me explain... When Eli was in the NICU it was hard to say the least... He was born the Monday before Thanksgiving, that Wednesday his lung colapsed and he was placed on a vent and had a chest tube put in, and on Thanksgiving day I was sent home with no baby. And that was all in the first 4 days of Eli's life and NICU stay! Needless to say, things got crazier from there. There were really good days (like his first bath, the first time I got to hold him, the first bottle) and there were bad days (blood transfusion days, days when he had more A's and B's than we could count, when he had to go back into the incubator because he couldn't hold his temp) but through each day Rick and I would get up, go to work, I would race to the NICU as soon as I was done, then head home to pick up Rick, have a quick dinner and head back to the NICU to be with Eli till we left to go home to sleep and start all over again the next day. So one day I was particularly sleep deprived and loopy. We were going to my mom's house for dinner that night and then heading to the NICU. On the way to the NICU (after dinner and everything) I looked down and there on my feet were these pink, puffy, furry UGG slippers. I burst out laughing. It was a much needed laugh. And to this day that is what it means to be a mom for me. To be so sleep deprived and so much in need of being with my children that I wear my pink UGG slippers right out the door and don't notice till I am half way to where ever I am going. Being a mom is hard work. But it's worth it... Put on your pink slippers and get to mom-ing it! :) I can't believe it... It's already been a year! Jack turned 1 yesterday! OMG! He is rocking! He started to really walk about a week before he turned 1. Now he is walking 1/2 the time and crawling 1/2 the time! :) He weighs 21 lbs 11 oz. He actually lost 4 oz since his last pedi visit (a week ago for sickness!). But he is really good. :) We had a Henry Hugglemoster party yesterday and his friends came to play! :) Where has the time gone?? I can't believe that Jack will be 1 in less than a MONTH! Where is my baby?!?! I can't even stand that he is getting so big... Jack is so happy most of the time. He crawls around super fast and will follow you where ever you go in the house. lol. He can stand on his own for about a minute now. :) No walking yet, but I think it's going to happen soon.
He has 8 teeth! 4 on top and 4 on bottom. :) He LOVES to eat! The only food that I found that he doesn't like is spinach. I think his favorite foods are puffs, yogurt melts and yogurt. :) Jack still doesn't sleep through the night. He will usually wake up at midnight and then again at 4ish AM. I am hoping that he will start to sleep through the night soon so that we can move him into the bedroom with Eli. :) Jack loves to play with insturments! His favorite is the tambourine. ;) He also likes to steal all of Eli's toys and chew on them. ;) Jack is our big little boy. :) My heart is so happy because he is so big, healthy and happy. But my heart is also so sad because he is our last baby and he is no longer a baby. :/ So I was able to cross off a lot of my 30 Under 30 list with this trip to NY that we took! :) #2- We went to NY from FL so we took the boys out of the state! :) #20 We went to see the Statue of Liberty! AMAZING!! #22 We flew from FL to NY. #23 We went to Time Square! It was so cool! :) #24 We went to Central Park! BEAUTIFUL! This trip was a lot of firsts for Eli and Jack. First plane ride, first time in NY, first time on a boat... :)
But we went to say good bye to Gram and see where she was burried. The cemetary was very nice and she is with her husband in heaven at last. <3 Woo Hoo! Another one bites the dust! :) I have officially crossed off number 7 off my list! :) Vicky, Cheryl and I went to a wine tasting. Some things I discovered... - I don't really like red wine. - I really do like white wine. - I don't like burbon AT ALL! - I do like the cilantro vodka. - Bloody Mary's are not half bad! It was fun to do and we had a good time. I think I would like to go to another one some time! :) We had a great time. :) Thanks for helping me out Vicky and Cheryl! :)
Ok! So this is my first blog post about my 30 under 30 list! Woot woot! Since May 11 I have done a couple of the items and parts of other items! Let's get to crossing! :) #3- Dye my hair! I have always wanted to dye my hair red. IDK why, I just have. So I DID IT! This past weekend Mel helped me dye my hair! I really do like it! :) BEFORE! AFTER!!!
I do love it! I really like red hair! :) #6- The other day Eli, Jack and I went to 7-Eleven for a Slurpee. Eli had to know all of the flavors, help pour and such. The man who was actually there before us waited patiently for both Eli and I to get our Slurpees and was really sweet. So when I got up to the register and he was behind us I went ahead and bought his stuff! :) He was very gracious and I appreciated his willingness to let a 3 year old do his thing! :) #9- Well, I have done 1/12 of this! I read a book this past weekend, Jane's Gift. It was a really good read and very fast. If you like romance novels, you should pick this one up! :) There you have it! 2 and 1/12 of this list Here is the official Eli and Jack's Super Hero Squad March of Dimes video for 2013! Please feel free to share it! And if you have the urge... Please donate! www.marchforbabies.org/mary_kate I think it's time to pack up shop.
To stay at home and not ever leave. To become a hermit with my children. I think it's time to not let my 2 kids out of my sight. Time to make sure my little family is always together. I think it's time.... Why? you ask. Why not? would be my answer. This "world" this "society" that we live in is not a good one. It's not a society that I want my children to be raised in. It is not something that I want to expose my children to. I truly in my heart of hearts do not understand. I am 28 years old. I will be 29 next month, so for the purpose of this we will say that for 29 years I have lived on this Earth. I have breathed the same air as you, walked over the same ground, drank from the same water, eaten from the same food sources. I have been here for 29 years... and I still really, truly DO NOT UNDERSTAND why someone would want to do something as HORRIFIC as placing BOMBS at the end of a marathon where THOUSANDS of people will go by. I just don't understand why someone would think that this was a thing to do... It's hard for me to overcome the fear that has settled into my heart. God is really having to work on me and my heart of fear because of these things that happen in our world..... One of my biggest fears in all of this is that when they find the person that did this and they ask "Why did you do this?" the person will respond "I don't know." or "Because I did." This is my biggest fear for our society. So I think it's time... But I think it's time to step up and realize that GOD is BIGGER than THIS! God is EVEN BIGGER than the bombs that went off. So tonight I am remembering "Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil for thy rod and thy staff they comfort me." God is here. God is always here. And the thing about shadows? Yeah, they are caused by light. And the thing about that light? Yeah, that is where God is. |
